The Hana Umami Blue hand-built MC cartridge embodies the essence of ‘Umami’—a delightful flavour that enhances overall taste intensity. Maseo Okada-san, Hana’s master cartridge designer, applies this concept by blending premium materials and techniques with traditional Japanese craftsmanship and modern audio engineering to create the Umami Blue low-output MC cartridge, which features design elements derived from the highly regarded Umami Red cartridge.
This cryogenically treated MC generator incorporates an Alnico magnet and is wound with high-purity copper wire on a cross armature, achieving an internal impedance of 8Ω and an output of 0.4mV. The pure iron pole piece and Nude Microline stylus, bonded to a solid boron cantilever, are also utilised in the Umami Red cartridge, allowing for exceptional tracing of delicate musical nuances from vinyl records.
The comprehensive design approach delivers the classic sonic qualities and exceptional value that Hana cartridges are known for, positioning the Umami Blue between the price points of the Hana ML and Umami Red cartridges.
The Umami Blue features the exclusive Auricle™ body shape, designed with tapped mounting holes that mimic the form of the human outer ear, providing rigid support while protecting the “Open Air” Moving Coil generator. Crafted from lightweight, durable Duralumin, it is finished with a multi-layer melamine (MTP) in a brilliant glossy blue. An easy-to-install stylus guard safeguards your investment.
All major components of the Hana Umami Blue are manufactured in-house at Excel Sound, where highly skilled craftsmen hand-assemble each cartridge. With over 50 years of experience in MC design, Master Designer Okada-san applies the Umami concept of synergy and intensity to achieve outstanding sound quality.
The Umami Blue offers an output of 0.4mV at 1kHz.
It includes a two-year guarantee and a ‘new-for-old or damaged’ replacement service.
