Building on the success of the Standard Model 404, the Moonriver 404 Reference takes performance to a new level while maintaining an accessible price point.
The 404 Reference delivers exceptional detail, dynamic range, and tonal integrity, capable of driving any speaker on the market. With an upgraded power supply boasting 107,000µF capacitance—more than double the Standard model—it achieves improved dynamic behaviour, deeper bass, expansive soundstages, and intricate low-level detail.
A fully discrete preamp and custom-optimized output stage ensure transient fidelity and natural tonality while preserving the shortest feasible signal path. An integrated phono stage, USB DAC, preamp outputs, and a tape monitor loop enhance flexibility.

Power Supply & Layout
The Moonriver 404 Reference features an upgraded power supply with a total capacitance of 107,000µF, more than double that of the Standard model. This robust design includes dedicated reserves, with 21,000µF allocated exclusively to the preamp section, ensuring dynamic performance and precise tonal control.
The amplifier incorporates five independent power supplies, each with overload protection, delivering stable and efficient power across all stages. This meticulous design enhances transient fidelity, expands the soundstage, and provides a confident bass response, making the 404 Reference a true powerhouse for audiophile-grade audio systems.

This module is powered by the 9000-series ESS Sabre DAC chip, which supports PCM up to 192kHz/24-bit. It features independent power supplies, a massive 42,000µF capacitor bank, and a finely tuned analogue output stage for Moonriver's dynamic and natural sound.
USB DAC Module
Supports PCM up to 384kHz/24-bit and DSD up to 128. Equipped with a 9000-series ESS Sabre DAC chip, low-drift clocks, and custom firmware, this module offers precise digital-to-analogue conversion with five independent power supplies and Moonriver's signature sound voicing.
